Bedeutung/Ursprung der Flagge: Meaning/Origin of the Flag:
Die Flagge von Akadien repräsentiert die französischsprechenden Einwohner von Neubraunschweig, und Reste in Neuschottland und Prinz-Eduard-Insel, nach den Deportationen durch die Briten im Jahre 1755 (=> Akadiana ). Es ist eine schnell erkennbare französische Trikolore, ergänzt durch den gelben Stern der heiligen Maria. Möglich dass es Beziehungen zwischen Akadia und dem revolutionären Frankreich gab, doch die Flagge diente wohl eher als ein treffendes und gefühlvolles Symbol gallischer Identiät.

 The Acadian flag represents the Francophones of northern and eastern New Brunswick, and those few who remain in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island after the British deportations of 1755 (=> Acadiana ).

It is, of course, a readily-identifiable French tricolour, with the addition of a yellow star for St. Mary. One wonders what Acadia's relationship to revolutionary France might be, but it does serve as a striking and emotive symbol of Gallic identity.
