The Acadian flag represents the
Francophones of northern and eastern New Brunswick, and those few who remain in Nova
Scotia and Prince Edward Island after the British deportations of 1755 (=> Acadiana It is, of course, a readily-identifiable French tricolour, with the addition of a yellow star for St. Mary. One wonders what Acadia's relationship to revolutionary France might be, but it does serve as a striking and emotive symbol of Gallic identity. |
