| Das Wappen der Herzöge von Anhalt ist sehr reich gegliedert und zeigt insgesamt elf Felder, die Heroldsstücke der Familienlinien (z.B. Bernburger, Askanier) oder territoriale Erwerbungen widerspiegeln (Pfalzgrafschaft Sachsen, Behringen, Warmsdorf usw.). In der Mitte des Wappens, über allem, ein Herzschild. Dieser zeigt ein gespaltenes Schild, links Brandenburg und rechts Sachsen. Dieser Schild für sich allein dargestellt, so wie in der Flagge des Herzogs, gilt als die kleine Form des Wappens von Anhalt. Die Fürsten von Anhalt waren sowohl mit den Kurfürsten von Brandenburg als auch mit denen von Sachsen versippt und machten in beiden Ländern Erbberechtigungen geltend. Sie kombinierten in ihrem Wappen die Wappen der beiden oftmals befeindeten Länder in einem sogenannten Anspruchswappen. So wurden nicht nur die Wappen von Sachsen und Brandenburg für Anhalt kombiniert, sondern auch Anhalts Landesfarben Rot, Grün und Weiß sind eine Kombination der Landesfarben von Sachsen (Weiß und Grün) und Brandenburg (Rot und Weiß). Das Wappen des Freistaats Anhalt zeigt den Löwen von Bernburg. | The coat of arms of the dukes of
Anhalt is very abundantly jointed and shows altogether eleven fields, which reflect the
heraldic smithereens of the familie's lines (e.g. Bernburgs, Askanians) or territorial
acquisitions (Palatinate-County of Saxony, Behringen, Warmsdorf etc.). In the middle of
the coat of arms, over all, a heart-shield. That shows a splited shield, to the left
Brandenburg and on the right Saxony. This shield solely represented – like in the
flag of the Duke – is the little type of the coat of arms of Anhalt. The Princes of
Anhalt were as well as related with the Electors of Brandenburg and the Electors of Saxony
und claimed in both countries eligibilities of heritage. They combined in their coat of
arms the scutcheons of the both oftenly enemied countries in a so named claim-scutcheon. In this way were not only combined the coat of arms of Saxony and Brandenburg for Anhalt, but even the country's colours of Anhalt red, green and white are a combination of the country's colours of Saxony (white and green) and Brandenburg (red and white). The coat of arms of the Free State of Anhalt shows the lion of Bernburg. |
