Bedeutung/Ursprung der Flagge:	Meaning/Origin of the Flag:
Jersey verwendet als Nationalflagge die britsche Flagge Irlands, ein rotes Patrickskreuz auf weißem Grund, darüber das gekrönte Wappen Englands. Es wird auch in der Regierungsflagge (verwendet von der Fischereipatrouille), dem Blue Ensign verwendet, allerdings ohne Krone. Jersey orientiert sich damit am britschen Ensign-System. Dies und die Verwendung des "Union Jack" weisen auf die Verbindungen zu Großbritannien hin.	Jersey uses as national flag the British flag of Ireland, a red St. Patrick's Cross on white ground, above that the crowned coat of arms of England. It is also in use in the Gouvernment Ensign (worn by the Fisheries Patrol), the Blue Ensign, however without the crown. Jersey is in this way orientated in the British Ensign-System. This and the using of the "Union Jack" points to the connexions to Great Britain.
Großbritannien hatte in Jahr 1864 ein Flaggensystem eingeführt, in dem: Kriegsschiffe einen sogenannten "White Ensign" (Marineflagge), eine weiße Flagge oft mit durchgehendem roten Georgskreuz und mit dem Union Jack in der Oberecke, Handelsschiffe einen "Red Ensign" (auch "Civil Ensign" => Bürgerflagge genannt, die eigentl. Handelsflagge), eine rote Flagge mit dem Union Jack in der Oberecke, und Dienstschiffe einen "Blue Ensign" (Regierungsflagge => die eigentl. Staatsflagge), eine blaue Flagge mit dem Union Jack in der Oberecke führten. Seit 1865 durften Schiffe von Kolonialregierungen einen Blue Ensign mit einem Badge (Abzeichen) im fliegenden Ende führen. Die jeweiligen Regierungen sollten entsprechene Bagdes zur Verfügung stellen. Handelsschiffe und seefahrende Privatpersonen aus Kolonien dürfen nur dann einen Red Ensign mit Badge führen, wenn von der britischen Admiralität eine entsprechende Erlaubnis für die Kolonie erteilt wurde.	Great Britain introduced a flag system in 1864 in which: war ships fly the "White Ensign" (naval flag), a white flag often with an uninterrupted red St. George's-Cross and with the Union Jack in the upper staff quadrant of the flag, merchant ships fly a "Red Ensign" (also named "Civil Ensign" => civil flag, the real merchant flag), a red flag with the Union Jack in the upper staff quadrant of the flag, and governmental ships fly the "Blue Ensign" (flag for the use by the gouvernment => the actual state flag), a blue flag with the Union Jack in the upper staff quadrant of the flag. Since 1865 ships of colonial governments were permitted to fly the Blue Ensign with a badge in the flying end of the flag. The respective governments were asked to design appropriate badges. Merchant ships and seafaring persons from colonies were only permitted to use the Red Ensign with a badge, then also named Civil Ensign, if permission has been given to the respective colony by the British admiralty.
