Bedeutung/Ursprung der Flagge: Meaning/Origin of the Flag:
Die heutige Flagge Mordwiniens zeigt drei waagerechte Streifen in Rot, Weiß und Blau. In der Mitte des weißen Streifens ein einheimisches Symbol in Rot. Die Farben Rot, Weiß und Blau haben wahrscheinlich keinen typisch Mordwinischen Charakter. Sie sind hier eher als anders angeordnete Farben Russlands zu interpretieren. The today’s flag of Mordova shows three horizontal stripes in red, white and blue. In the middle of the white stripe a native symbol in red.

The colours red, white and blue have probably none typical Mordovan character. They are to interpret here more as otherwise arranged colours of Russia.

Ursprung des Landesnamens: Origin of the Country's Name:
Der Name "Mordwinien" geht natürlich auf das Volk der Mordwinen zurück, ein finno-ugrisches Volk, das sich selbst als "Mordva" bezeichnet, was soviel bedeutet wie "Menschen". The name "Mordova" has of course its roots in the nation of the Mordovans – a Finno-Hungarian nation – which designates itself as "Mordva", what menas something like "humans".
