| Das Kronland Triest verwendete als Landesfarben zwei Varianten von Flaggen die jeweils horizontale Streifen zeigten, entweder in Rot, Weiß und Rot oder Schwarz und Gold. Die Farben stammen vom damaligen Wappen von Triest und beziehen sich auf den österreichischen Bindenschild bzw. den schwarzen Doppeladler auf goldenem Grund. | The Crown Land of Triest used as
colours of the country two variants of flags which each showed horizontal stripes, either
in red, white and red or black and gold. The colours descend from the coat of arms of Triest and refer to the Austrian band shield respectively the black twin-eagle on golden ground. |

| Das Wappen Triests zeigte bis 1919 einen geteilten Schild: Oben einen schwarzen, gekrönten Doppeladler auf Gold (Sinnbild der Habsburger Monarchie), unten die österreichischen Farben des Babenberger Bindenschilds und darauf ein goldener Spieß. Der Spieß ist das Wahrzeichen der Stadt Triest. | The coat of arms of Triest
showed until 1919 a divided shield: Above a black-crowned twin-eagle on gold (device of the Habsburg's monarchy), below the Austrian colours of the Babenberg's band shield and on it a golden spear. The spear is the landmark of the City of Triest. |

| Der Name "Triest" geht
auf "Tergeste" zurück, der Name der Stadt als diese im 2. Jahrhundert v.Chr.
von den Römern gegründet wurde. Allerdings muss sich schon vorher eine illyrische Siedlung an dieser Stelle befunden haben, den "Tergeste" geht auf das illyrische Wort "Terga" zurück, was "Markt" heißt. |
The name "Triest" has
its roots in "Tergeste", the name of the town as this was established by the
Romans in the 2nd century. However there must have been an Illyrian smallholding at this place, because "Tergeste" goes back to the Illyrian word "Terga", what means "market". |
