Die Flagge des Districts of Columbia wurde am 15.10.1938 eingeführt. Sie zeigt ein weißes Grundtuch mit zwei nach unten verschobenen roten Streifen und darüber drei fünfzackige rote Sterne. Die Gestaltung der Flagge geht auf das Familienwappen der Familie von General George Washington zurück, welches in England ab dem Jahr 1592 nachweisbar ist.	The flag of the District of Columbia was introduced on 15th of October in 1938. It shows a white bunting with two down moved red stripes and above three five-pointed red stars. The design of the flag dates back to the family arms of the family of General George Washington, which is detectable in England from 1592.

Der Name "Columbia" geht auf den Namen von Christoph Kolumbus zurück. Er ist eine poetische und allegorische Bezeichnung für den amerikanischen Kontinent aus dem 18. Jahrhundert, der aber mit der Zeit aus der Mode kam. Ähnliche Bezeichnungen sind Germania, Britannia, Borussia oder Saxonia. Ähnliche Columbia-Namen in Amerika sind: Kolumbien (Staat) oder Britisch-Kolumbien (Provinz Kanadas).	The name "Columbia" dates back to the name of Christopher Columbus. It is a poetic and allegorical term for the american continent from the 18th Century, but over time it came out of fashion. Similar names are Germania, Britannia, Borussia or Saxonia. Similar columbia-names in America are: Colombia (State) or British Columbia (Province of Canada).
