Die Nationalflagge der Westindische Föderation zeigte ein hellblaues Flaggentuch mit vier waagerechten weißen Wellenlinien und einer goldenen Scheibe in der Mitte. Sie symbolisierte die Sonne über der Karibischen See. The national flag of the Federation of the West Indies showed a pale blue bunting with four horizontal wave-lines and a golden disk in the middle. It should symbolize the sun above the Caribbean Sea.

Geschichte:
Die Westindische Föderation war ein Versuch Großbritanniens seine Besitzungen in der Karibik unter einer einheitlichen Verwaltung zusammenzufassen, auch um Autonomiebestrebungen der einzelnen Inseln vorzubeugen. Jedoch mussten viele Zugeständnisse an die einzelnen Inseln gemacht und häufig mehr Selbstverwaltung zugestanden werden. In Jamaika forderte man schließlich am 19.09.1961 den Austritt aus der Föderation und erstrebte die Unabhängigkeit. Ein schlechtes Vorbild für die Föderation, die somit überflüssig wurde, und am 31.05.1962 aufgelöst wurde.

History:
The Federation of the West Indies was an attempt of Great Britain to unify its possessions in the Caribbean Sea under an central government, further to prevent ambitions of the separate islands for more autonomy. Bud there had be made many concessions to the separate islands and frequently was granted more self-government. In Jamaica they claimed finally the withdrawal from the federation on 19th of September in 1961 and they aimed for independence. A bad model for the federation which became in this way needless. It was dissolved on 31st of may in 1962.

Ursprung des Landesnamens: Origin of the Country's Name:
Der Name "Westindische Föderation" widerspiegelt die geographische Lage und die föderale Struktur des Landes. Manchmal wird es auch als "Karibische Föderation" oder "Britische Karibische Föderation" bezeichnet. The name "Federation of the West Indies" mirrors the geographic position and the federal structure of the country. Sometimes it is also called "Caribbean Federation" or "British Caribbean Federation".
