Meaning/Origin of the Flag

The flag was adopted on 20th of September in 1995, in the format-ratio of 1:2. On 6th of December in 1995 a small change was made to the crown in the upper corner. Obviously there is apart from the official flag of the Autonomous District of the Khanty and Mansi a flag of the respective nations oneself. About the meaning and the origin of the flags is nothing known.

Origin of the Country's Name

The Khanty and Mansi, are two very closely related Finno-Ugric peoples. The Russians called the Khanty earlier "Ostyaks", and the Mansi "Voguls". The two nations call themselves as "Chanti" and "Mansi". That fact was remembered in 1940 at the rename of the territory.
