| Das Land "Provinz Sachsen-Anhalt" verabschiedete 1947 eine Verfassung. Darin wurde die Flagge des Landes als schwarz-golden-schwarze Bikolore festgelegt. Damit wurde die Flagge der preußischen Provinz Sachsen fortgesetzt. Als 1990 das Land unter dem Namen "Sachsen-Anhalt" neu belebt wurde, wurde eine golden-schwarze Bikolore eingeführt. Die Farben haben ihren Ursprung im mittelalterlichen sächsischen Wappenschild. | The
country "Province of Saxony-Anhalt" passed in 1947 a constitution. In it was
designated the flag of the country as a black-golden bicolor. Therewith was
maintained the flag of the Prussian Province of Saxony. As in 1990 the country was revived under the name "Saxony-Anhalt" was introduced a golden-black bicolor. The colors have their origin
in the medieval Saxon blazon. |

| Am 05.04.2017 beschloss der Landtag ein neues Hoheitszeichengesetz. Mit diesem hat jedermann, und nicht nur Ämter und Behörden, die Möglichkeit die schwarz-gelbe Landesflagge mit dem in der Mitte befindlichen Wappenschild zu verwenden. | On 5th of April in 2017, the Landtag parliament passed a new law about the state symbols. With it has everyone – not only officials and authorities – the possibility to use the black-yellow flag with the coat of arms in the middle. |

| Das Land "Provinz Sachsen-Anhalt" verwendete offenbar nicht das Wappenschild der preußischen Provinz Sachsen sondern das Wappenschild des benachbarten Landes Sachsen (ergänzt um Darstellungen der Landwirtschaft und des Bergbaus). Wahrscheinlich wollte man damit die heraldischen Traditionen des Herzogtums Anhalt anknüpfen, denn dessen Wappen zeigte in einem gespaltenen Schild – links den brandenburgischen Adler und rechts den sächsischen Wappenschild. Die Wappen des Landes Sachsen und der preußischen Provinz Sachsen unterscheiden sich seit 1864 darin, welche Farbe im zehnfach geteilten Wappenschild oben zuerst erscheint – Schwarz oder Gold. Als 1990 das Land unter dem Namen "Sachsen-Anhalt" neu belebt wurde, wurde nicht nur eine neue Flagge eingeführt, sondern auch ein neues Wappen. Interessant ist, das die Farbreihenfolge der Flagge im Gegensatz zur preußischen Provinz Sachsen jetzt heraldisch richtig ist, und im neuen Wappen erscheint das Wappenschild der preußischen Provinz Sachsen, ergänzt um einen preußischen Adler in der Oberecke, und in der unteren Hälfte des Wappens ergänzt um das heraldische Symbol von Anhalt-Bernburg, das schon 1919 bis 1945 in der Dienstflagge des Landes Anhalt verwendet wurde. Der Adler steht wahrscheinlich für das Gebiet Havelberg, welches ursprünglich zu Preußen bzw. bis 1952 zum Land Brandenburg gehörte. Dafür spricht, dass der Adler zwischen 1990 und 1993 rot war. → roter Adler auf weißem Grund → Brandenburg. | The
country "Province of Saxony-Anhalt" obviously did not use the blazon of the
Prussian Province of Saxony but the blazon of the neighbouring Country of
Saxony (completed by depictions of agriculture and mining). Probably one
would link therewith to the heraldic traditions of the Duchy of Anhalt,
because its coat of arms showed in a clefted shield – to the left the
Brandenburg eagle and on the right the Saxon blazon. The coats of arms of the Country of Saxony and the Prussian Province of Saxony are since 1864 different in that, which color appears above first in the ten times divided blazon – black or gold. As in 1990 the country
was revived under the name "Saxony-Anhalt" was introduced not only a new
flag, but even a new coat of arms. Interesting is, that the color-sequence
of the flag is heraldical correct now, in contrast to the
Prussian province of Saxony, and in the new coat of arms
appears the blazon of the Prussian Province of Saxony, completed by a
Prussian eagle in the upper corner, and in the lower half of the coat of
arms completed by the heraldic symbol of Anhalt-Bernburg which was already
in use in the official flag of the country Anhalt from 1919 until 1945. The
eagle stands probably for the region of Havelberg, which originally belonged
to Prussia respectively until 1952 to the Country Brandenburg. For this
means, that the eagle was red between 1990 and 1993. → red eagle on white
ground → Brandenburg. |
