The
European Movement was founded by an initiative of Winston Churchill as
"Europe Union" in May 1948. It involves as gathering organization particular
members from European countries as well as pro-European organizations and
societies. The flag was designed by the son-in-law of Winston Churchill an
showed initially a white bunting with an onto layed green letter "E". White
stands for the peaceful intentions and green is the colour of hope. On the 5th of May in 1949 was
foundet the European Council. It quasi arises out of the European Movement
and unites nowadays the membering states of the European Union, the EFTA and
various individual European states. The European Council adoped in the year
1955 the blue flag with the twelve stars (flag of the European Union) and the European Movement
followed that example. Whether already in the year 1955 or later was not to
ascertain.
