The armies of Dshingis Khan invade fielen into the mountains of the today's Afghanistan about the year 1221 and destroyed the leftovers of the Ghorian Empire. Parts of the army of Dshingis Khan settled there, respectively immigrated many Mongols into the region after the capture. They constituted there an own state – the Empire of the Hazars. The name Hazara derives from the Persian word "Hesoreh", means "thousands", and remembers the numerical large Mongolian armies. The Hazara could keep their independence until the end of the 19th century, even their territory belonged nominally to various historical states. In the fight against the Soviet occupation (1980-1988) the Hazara achieved their own autonomous territory – the Hazaratshat – which becomes however eliminated during the rule of the Taliban in Afghanistan (1996-2001).
