Explanation on the Protection-Signs

The flags of the Red Cross, Red Crescent and the Red Lion are international recognized protective signs. The stand in conflicts for impartial help and neutrality, in and between the armed forces, too. Buildings, vehicles or equipment, carrying this signs stand under the protection of the Genf-Agreement and the Land-War-Arrangement of Haag and it is not allowed to attack them. For persons carrying this signs, is valid the same, but is is them not allowed to take part immediate in onslaught operations, they can only defend themselves and the them confided wound people, and their equipment. The Red Lion was finally in use in Iran (Persia). With the doom of this state and the creation of the Islamic Republic of Iran he was abolished in favor of the Red Crescent. However he is still a protective sign, and must be respected, should he be in use.

The flag of the Red Cross was created in 1863 by Henri Dunant in Genf, on the occasion of the Founding of the same-named international organization. The Red Cross makes itselve for duty to alleviate in the war the fate of the war-victims and to appear as neutral mediator in all questions refering to the wound people and prisoners. By creation of the flag was the model the flag of Switzerland, however in the inversion of the colours. Dunant has in his mind rather the Switzerland and his strict neutrality, than cristian ideals or cristian symbolism.

The flag of the Red Crescent was created after the model of the flag of the Red Cross and represents a analagous, only for Muslims responsible organization. The religious orientation arised erroneously in the believe the Red Cross corresponds to the christian symbol and is responsible only for christians, not knowing that it is created by the inversion of the colours of the swiss flag and stands for strict (just Swiss) neutrality.

Red Lion

The flag of the Red Lion was created after the model of the flag of the Red Cross and represented until 1980 an analagous, only for Persians (Iranians) responsible organization. After the fall of the Shah (1980), the Islamic Republic of Iran has taken the Red Crescent, however, Iran retains until today the exclusive right for a re-use of the Red Lion.

International Olympic Committee

The flag of the Red David Star was created in 1949 after the model of the flag of the Red Cross and represents a analagous, only for Jews responsible organization. The Red Star of David is since of 2006 a member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. However, in accordance to the Third Additional Protocol, the Red Star of David is to use in foreign missions in combination with the Red Crystal, or, as the case is, exclusively the Red Crystal. But, the Red David Star is not an international protective sign.

Red Swastika Society

The Red Swastika Society was founded in Beijing in 1921 as an originally Chinese religious aid organization. Today it is not only active in many Asian countries, it is even spread to Europe. However, the red swastika is not an international protective sign.
