Meaning/Origin of the Flag

The flag of Kuala Lumpur was introduced on 15th of May in 1990. It shows clearly the symbolism of the flag of Malaysia: fourteen white and red stripes, the blue, the yellow half-moon and the yellow fourteen-pointed star. The design shows in this way that Kuala Lumpur is a federal territory of the state Malaysia, and not a federal element of that land. On 26th of May in 2006 was additionally introduced a common flag for the three Malaysian federal territories. It shows three horizontal stripes in yellow, blue and red and in the middle of the blue stripe of the coat of arms with three stars below it, representing the three federal territories. The colors of the flag are the colors of Malaysia, like they appear on the national flag of the country, but in a different arrangement.
