Masuria initially had none own colours or flags. In the middle of the 18th century the colours of the Scholar Society "Corps Masovia" from Koenigsberg were shown for the first time in Masuren on the occasion of festivities. These colours achieved until ca. 1875 as the "Colours of Masuria" within the population. The colour blue was used since 1882 in a very pale shade. About the correct sequence of the colours exist different informations: Blue-white-red or red-white-blue.
