Bedeutung/Ursprung der Flagge: Meaning/Origin of the Flag:
Die inoffizielle Flagge der Midway-Inseln wurde im Jahre 2000 geschaffen und zeigt einen Albatross über den Gewässern des Stillen Ozeans. Die Midway-Inseln waren und sind mittlerweile wieder eine bedeutende Brutkolonie für die Albatrosse, besonders nach 1997, dem Jahr der Schließung des US-Militärstützpunktes. Die Flagge ist eine inoffizielle Flagge, und es darf gezweifelt werden, ob sie jemals verwendet wurde oder verwendet wird. Die Inseln sind jetzt ein Naturschutzgebiet. The unofficial flag of the Midway Islands was created in the year 2000 and shows an Albatross over the waters of the Pacific Ocean. The Midway Islands were and are meanwhile again a important brood colony for the albatrosses notably after 1997 – the year of closing of the US military base.

The flag is an unofficial flag and it is allowed to doubt if it was ever in use or is in use. The islands are now a wildlife sanctuary.

Ursprung des Landesnamens: Origin of the Country's Name:
Die Inseln verdanken ihren Namen dem Umstand, dass sie "in der Mitte des Weges" zwischen Amerika und Asien liegen. The islands owe their name the situation that they are situated "in the middle of the way" between America and Asia.
