| Die Flagge von Niue wurde im Oktober 1974 eingeführt (nach anderen Quellen erst 1975). Sie ist gelb mit dem Union Jack in der Oberecke. Der Stern in der Mitte des Union Jack steht für Niue selbst, die vier kleineren Sterne stehen für Neuseeland. Der Union Jack erinnert an die früheren Bindungen zu Großbritannien. Die Farbe Gelb steht für die Sonne und die Loyalität der Insel gegenüber Neuseeland. | The flag of Niue was introduced in October 1974 (by other sources not until 1975). It is yellow with the Union Jack in the upper staff quadrant. The star in the middle of the Union Jack stands for Niue itself and the four smaller stars stand for New Zealand. The Union Jack remembers the former allegiance to Great Britain. The colour yellow stands for the sun and the loyalty of the island to New Zealand. |

| Niue wechselte 1901 im Besitz von Großbritannien auf Neuseeland, so dass hier seit jenem Jahr das Wappen von Neuseeland verwendet wurde. 1974 wurde das Wappen modifiziert und in Form eines Siegels gebracht. Zwar wurde das Wappen Neuseelands beibehalten, jedoch mit einer Umschrift umgeben, die auf Niue Bezug nimmt. 2021 wurde eine neues, eigenes Siegel angenommen. Es zeigt unter der britischen Krone (der britische Monarch ist das Staatsoberhaupt von Neuseeland und somit auch von Niue) einen Muschelkranz, einheimische Symbolik, stilisierte Vegetation, zwei gekreuzte Katoua-Spaltkeulen vor ein Spruchband mit dem Motto der Insel: "Atua Niue Tukulagi" → "Gott, Niue auf ewig". |
Niue changed hands from
Great Britain to New Zealand in 1901, so the coat of arms of New Zealand has
been used here since that year. In 1974, the coat of arms was modified and put in the form of a seal. While the coat of arms of New Zealand was retained, it was surrounded by an inscription referring to Niue. In 2021, a new seal was adopted. It shows native symbolism under the British crown (the British monarch is the head of state of New Zealand and thus also of Niue), a circle of sea shells, stylised vegetation, two crossed Katoua Clubs in front of a banner with the island's motto: "Atua Niue Tukulagi" → "God, Niue eternally". |

| Als James Cook die Insel 1774 entdeckte, versuchten seine Männer mehrfach auf der Insel zu landen, jedoch wurden sie immer wieder von martialisch bemalten Einheimischen vertrieben. Darauf hin nannte Cook die Insel "Savage Island", was die nächsten Jahrhunderte der Name der Insel blieb. Erst im 20. Jahrhundert besann man sich wieder des einheimischen Namens der Insel. Niue heißt übersetzt: "Seht die Kokosnuss". |
When James Cook discovered the island in 1774, his men tried to land on the
island several times, but they were always driven away by martially painted
natives. Cook then called the island "Savage Island", which remained the
name of the island for the next few centuries. It was not until the 20th
century that the island's native name was recalled. Niue translates as
"Behold the Coconut". |
