Ursprung des Landesnamens: Origin of the Country's Name:
Der Name "Tigray" geht auf das hier lebende christliche Volk der Tigray zurück. Früher wurde das Land auch Tigre genannt. Es gibt aber auch ein Volk der "Tigre", das überwiegend Moslems, das in Eritrea und Sudan lebt. Das kann leicht verwechselt werden. The name "Tigray" has its roots in the here living christian people of the Tigray. Former the country was called Tigre. But there is also a "Tigre" people, who are predominantly Muslims, who live in Eritrea and Sudan. This can easily be confused.
