Die heutige Flagge von Iowa am 29.03.1921 angenommen. Sie wurde von Dixie Cornell Gebhardt geschaffen und zeigt drei vertikale Streifen Blau, Weiß und Rot, wobei der weiße Streifen doppelt so breit ist wie die anderen. In der Mitte des weißen Streifens ein Adler mit einem Spruchband im Schnabel, darauf das Motto des Landes: "Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain" => "Wir loben unsere Freiheit und behaupten unsere Rechte" | The today's flag of
Iowa was adopted on 29th of March in 1921. It was designed by Dixie Cornell Gebhardt and
shows three vertical stripes blue, white and red, and the white stripe is twice wide as
the others. In the middle of the white stripe, an eagle with a banner in its beak and on it the motto of the state: "Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain" |
Das Design der Flagge orientiert sich an der französischen Trikolore. Damit soll an die Geschichte des Landes erinnert werden, das einst Teil von Französisch-Louisiana gewesen ist. Der Adler steht für die USA. | The design of the flag is modeled after the French Trikolore. This should remember the history of the country that once was part of French Louisiana. The eagle represents the United States. |
Die erste Flagge von Iowa, ebenfalls von Dixie Cornell Gebhardt geschaffen, wurde bereits 1917 angenommen, jedoch nur beim Militär verwendet. Sie zeigte nur den Adler mit dem Spruchband im Schnabel. | The first flag of Iowa,
