| Die Flagge von Ohio wurde am 09.05.1902 eingeführt. Sie zeigt neben den Farben der USA eine ungewöhnliche Form, was auf Ihren Ursprung als Kavalleriestandarte während des Bürgerkrieges zurückzuführen ist. Am Mast befindet sich ein blaues gleichschenkliges Dreieck, und in dessen Mitte eine rote, weißumrandete Scheibe, die von siebzehn weißen Sternen umgeben ist. Die Scheibe stellt ein "Buckeye" dar, eine Frucht des Kastanienbaums (Aesculus glabra), welcher der Nationalbaum des Landes ist. Die weiße Umrandung ist ein "O", der Anfangsbuchstabe des Landesnamens. Die siebzehn Sterne erinnern daran, dass Ohio als siebzehnter Staat den USA beigetreten ist. In wehenden Teil der Flagge befinden sich fünf rote und weiße Streifen. Das Design der Flagge mit Dreieck und Streifen soll die Landschaft Ohios mit seinen Bergen, Ebenen und Flüssen darstellen. | The flag of Ohio was
introduced on 9th of May in 1902. It shows not only the colors of the USA, but even an
unusual form, because it is a cavalry banner which was used during the Civil War. On the
mast is placed a blue isosceles triangle, and in its middle a red, white-bordered disc,
which is surrounded by seventeen white stars. The disc is a "Buckeye" a fruit of the chestnut tree (Aesculus
glabra), which is the national tree of the country. The white border is an "O",
the initial letter the country's name. The seventeen stars remember that Ohio became the
seventeenth state of the United States. In the flying end of the flag, there are five red
and white stripes. The design of the flag – with its triangle and stripes –
represents Ohio's landscape with its mountains, plains and rivers. |
