Die Staatsflagge von Pennsylvanien wurde am 16.06.1907 eingeführt. Sie zeigt ein blaues Grundtuch und darauf das Staatswappen. | The state flag of Pennsylvania, was introduced on 16th of June in 1907. It shows a blue bunting and on it the coat of arms. |
Das Wappen stammt von 1777, und wurde erst 1875 offiziell eingeführt. Es zeigt einen horizontal dreigeteilten Wappenschild. Oben ein Schiff, in der Mitte einen Pflug und unten drei Getreidegarben. Sie stehen für die ursprünglichen drei Gemeinden des Landes, Philadelphia, Chester und Sussex. Als Schildhalter zwei Pferde, oben, auf dem Schild ein auffliegender Weißkopfseeadler, das Wappentier der USA. | The coat of arms is

horizontally divided shield. Above a ship in the middle of a plow and bottom three grain
sheaves. They stand for the original three municipalities of the country, Philadelphia, Chester and Sussex. Supporters are two horses. Above, on the shield, a soaring bald eagle, the emblem of the United States. |
Die Flagge der Deutschen in Pennsylvanien ist weiß und zeigt einen zentralen Schild in der Form eines Schlusssteins (Symbol von Pennsylvanien), darauf ein Schiff mit der Jahreszahl 1683 auf dem Segel. Um das Schild ein Motto in Pennsylvanien-Deutsch: "Liewer Gott im Himmel drin loss uns Deitsche was mir sin". In den Ecken der Flagge eine Kirche (Glaube), ein Pflug (Arbeit), ein Herzmotiv mit Tulpen (Tradition) und ein Planwagen (Geschichte). | The flag of the Germans in Pennsylvania is white and shows a central shield in form of a keystone (symbol of Pennsylvania), on it a ship bearing the date 1683 on the sail. Around the shield a motto in Pennsylvania-German: "Liewer Gott im Himmel drin loss uns Deitsche was mir sin" => "Dear God in Heaven, Leave Us Germans What We Are." In the corners of the flag of a church (faith), a plow (work), a heart motif with tulips (tradition), and a covered wagon (history). |

Der Name "Pennsylvanien" wurde dem Land vom englischen König Karl II. gegeben. Ursprünglich sollte es nur Sylvanien ("Waldland") heißen. Jedoch setzte der König gegen den Willen des Besitzers William Penn dessen Familiennamen davor => Pennsylvanien ("Penns Waldland"). | The name "Pennsylvania" was given to the country by the English King Charles II. Originally it should only be Sylvania ("Woodland"). However, the king appointed against the wishes of the owner William Penn his family name before => Pennsylvania ( "Penn's Woodland"). |
