Bedeutung/Ursprung der Flagge: | Meaning/Origin of the Flag: |
| The today's flag of
Washington was introduced on 7th of June in 1923. It shows a single coloured dark green
bunting with the seal of the state in the middle. The seal dates from 1889 and was
designed by the Talcott Brothers in use of a circular inkwell, a silver dollar coin (the
circles) and a stamp with the portrait of George Washington. Because of its many pine
forests the state is called with the nickname "Evergreen State". That fact was
important in 1923 when they choiced the color for the bunting. Previously there were
already some unofficial flags, mostly in blue and green. |
