Bedeutung/Ursprung der Flagge: Meaning/Origin of the Flag:
Die Flagge von Maakhir zeigt zwei waagerechte Streifen in Weiß und Hellblau, die das Meer und den Himmel verkörpern. Auf dem Wasser ein Boot vor einer aufgehenden Sonne. Der untere Teil der Flagge (das Wasser) erinnert in seiner Gestaltung an die Flagge Somalias und unterstreicht den Anspruch des Landes ein "State of Somalia" zu sein.

 The flag of Maakhir shows two horizontal stripes in white and pale blue which symbolize the ocean and the heaven. On the water a boat in front of a rising sun. The lower part of the flag (the water) remembers in its designing the flag of Somalia and emphasizes the pretensions of the country to be a "State of Somalia".

Bedeutung/Ursprung des Wappens: Meaning/Origin of the Coat of Arms:
Das Wappen von Maakhir zeigt das Bild der Flagge, umgeben von grünen Zweigen. Bemerkenswert ist, dass der weiße fünfzackige Stern aus der Flagge im Wappen nicht mehr auftaucht. Statt dessen ist er grün und dominiert den oberen Teil des Wappens. Möglicherweise steht er für den Islam und seine "fünf Säulen". Der untere Teil des Wappens mit den Speeren und dem Band stammt aus dem Wappen von Somalia. The coat of arms of Maakhir shows the image of the flag surrounded by green twigs. Remarkable is that the white five-pointed star from the flag is not appearing in the coat of arms anymore. Instead it is green and dominates the upper part of the coat of arms. Maybe that it stands for the Islam and its "five columns".
The lower part of the coat of arms with the spears and the ribbon descends from the coat of arms of Somalia.

Geschichte:
Der Staat Maakhir wurde am 01.07.2007 durch den Warsangeli-Clan-Chef Jibrel Ali Salaad für autonom erklärt. Der Staat nennt sich selbst "Maakhir - State of Somalia". Somaliland und Puntland beanspruchen beide das Gebiet. Die somalische Zentralregierung hat den Staat bisher nicht als autonomen Staat innerhalb von Somalia anerkannt.

History:
The Maakhir-State was declared as autonomous on 1st of July in 2007 by the Warsangeli Clan Chief Jibrel Ali Salaad. The state calles itself "Maakhir - State of Somalia". Somaliland and Puntland claim both this area. The Somali central government did still not recognize this state as an autonomous state within Somalia.
