Meaning/Origin of the Flag

The flag of the Far Eastern Republic showed a red bunting how it was usual for Soviet republics. But they did it consciously without hammer, sickle and red star, to prevent every reference to Sowjet Russia. A square dark blue upper staff quadrant showed the initials of the country: DWR

History

Background: A civil war raged in Soviet Russia after Lenin's Bolshevik coup, in which foreign troops (USA, Japan, France, Great Britain, etc.) also intervened. Soviet Russia was striving for international recognition and did not want to wage war directly against the USA or Japan in the Far East. Thus, at Moscow's instigation, the Far Eastern Republic was created, which was installed as a belligerent buffer between the troops of the interveners and Soviet Russia. The Far Eastern Republic was consequently abolished after the end of the fighting in the Far East.
