Bedeutung/Ursprung der Flagge: Meaning/Origin of the Flag:
Die Flagge von Arizona wurde am 27.02.1917 eingeführt. Sie ist ein Entwurf des Generaladjutanten des Arizona-Territoriums, Charles Harris, aus dem Jahre 1911. Sie zeigt horizontal geteiltes Flaggentuch. Das obere Feld ist gelb mit roten Strahlen, das untere Feld ist einfarbig Blau. In der Mitte der Flagge ein kupferfarbener fünfzackiger Stern. Blau und Gelb sind die Landesfarben. Gelb und Rot die Farben der ehemaligen Kolonialmacht Spanien. Der kupferne Stern steht für das Land und seine Bodenschätze. The flag of Arizona was introduced on 27th of February in 1917. It was designed by the Adjutant General of Arizona-Territory, Charles Harris, in the year 1911.
It shows a horizontal divided bunting. The upper field is yellow with red rays, the lower field is single-coloured blue. In the middle of the flag appears of a copper-colored five-pointed star. Blue and yellow are the national colours. Yellow and red are the colors of Spain, the former colonial might. The copper star stands for the country and its mineral resources.

Die Herkunft und Bedeutung des Namens "Arizona" ist nicht genau zu klären. Es gibt mehrere Theorien:

1. Das Wort stammt als "Arida Zona" (Trockenzone) aus dem Spanischen

2. Das Wort stammt als "Arizonac" (Ort der kleinen Quelle) aus einer Indianischen Sprache

3. Das Wort stammt als "Arizuma" (silberhaltig) aus der Sprache der Azteken. Allerdings gibt es hier nur Kupfer.
