Chemnitz ist eine kreisfreie Stadt im Südwesten von Sachsen. Die Flagge von Chemnitz zeigt das Wappen auf den Farben der Stadt, Blau und Gelb. Sie sind dem Wappen entnommen, von den Landsberger Pfählen. Die askanische Grafschaft Landsberg lag zur Zeit der Gründung der Stadt (1165) nördlich von ihr, im Osten die Markgrafschaft Meißen, die sich als schwarzer Löwe auf Gold in der zweiten Hälfte des Wappens findet. Die Stadt unterstand zunächst unmittelbar dem König, kam jedoch 1307 an die Markgrafschaft Meißen der Wettiner.

Chemnitz is a city in the southwest of Saxony. The flag of Chemnitz shows the coat of arms on the city's colors, blue and yellow. They are taken from the coat of arms, from the Landsberg Pales. At the time the city was founded (1165), the Ascanian county of Landsberg was north of it. The city was initially under the king's control, but in 1307 it became part of the Wettin Margravate of Meissen.
