The flag of the Republic of Karachay-Cherkessia consists in three horizontal stripes in blue, green and red. The middle green stripe contains an emblem. This shows the snowcovered peak of the 5642 meters high Mount Elbrus, above the rising sun. The sun symbolizes the hope for a good future. At the designing of the flag the Russian tricolor may have stood as model, because it is also horizontally divided into three stripes, and even two of its colours are contained in the flag of the Republic of Karachay-Cherkessia. Blue stands for peace, good intentions and serenity, green stands for nature, fertility and prosperity, red stands for warmth and friendship.
