Bedeutung/Ursprung der Flagge – Meaning/Origin of the Flag:
Die Flagge von Rheinland-Pfalz wurde im Jahr 1948 angenommen. Sie zeigt die deutsche Trikolore, in der Oberecke das Landeswappen. Das Wappen zeigt die heraldischen Symbole der Landesteile, das ehemalige Kurfürstentum Trier (rotes Kreuz auf weißem Grund), das ehemalige Kurfürstentum Mainz (weißes Rad auf rotem Grund) und die Pfalz (goldener Löwe auf schwarzem Grund). Auf dem Wappenschild die "Volkskrone". The flag of Rhineland-Palatinate was adoped in 1948. It shows the german tricolor, in the upper canton the coat of arms of the country. The coat of arms shows the heraldic symbols of the country-parts, the former election-principality Trier (red cross on white ground), the former election-principality Mainz (white wheel on red ground) and the Pfalz/Palatinate (golden lion on black ground). Over the blazon the "people's crown".

Geschichte:
Das Land Rheinland-Pfalz wurde am 30.08.1947 auf Beschluss der Alliierten aus dem Süden der preußischen Rheinprovinz, der bis dato zu Bayern gehörenden Pfalz und westrheinischen Gebieten Hessens gebildet (Rheinhessen).
