Bedeutung/Ursprung der Flagge:	Meaning/Origin of the Flag:
Die Flagge von Oberösterreich zeigt zwei Streifen in Weiß und Rot und wurde zuletzt am 25.04.1949 offiziell bestätigt. Die Farben der Flagge leiten sich aus den Farben des rechten Teils des Wappens ab. Die Flagge selbst wurde bereits im 19. Jhd. verwendet.	The flag of Upper Austria shows two stripes in white and red and was officially and lastly confirmed on the 25th of April in 1949. The colours of the flag are derived from the colours of the right part of the coat of arms. The flag itself was already in use in the 19th century.
Die Flaggen der Österreichischen Bundesländer werden mit oder ohne Wappen gezeigt. Amtlich verwendet, tragen sie immer das Wappen, jedoch darf auch die Bevölkerung Flaggen mit Wappen verwenden.	The flags of the Federal States of Austria are used with or without the coat of arms. For official use, however, they always show it. The general population is permitted to use this format as well.

Das heutige Wappen von Oberösterreich entspricht dem Wappen des alten Kronlandes. Es zeigt einen gespaltenen Schild: links ein goldener Adler in Schwarz, das rechte Feld ist dreifach gespalten in den Farben Weiß und Rot. Auf dem Wappen die Krone eines Erzherzogs.	The today's blazon of Upper Austria equals the blazon of the former crown land. It shows a clefted shield: to the left a golden eagle in black, the right field is threefold clefted in the colours white and red. Above the blazon the crown of an arch-duke.

Ursprung des Landesnamens:	Origin of the Country's Name:
"Oberösterreich" hieß ursprünglich "Österreich ob der Enns", was sich auf den Fluss Enns bezieht, welcher einen Teil der Grenze zwischen Oberösterreich und Niederösterreich (Österreich unter der Enns) bildet. Die modernen Bezeichnungen für die beiden Teile des Erzherzogtums Österreich sollen zu Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts aufgekommen sein.	"Upper Austria" was originally named "Austria above der Enns" what points out to the Enns River. It is a part of the frontier between Upper Austria and Lower Austria (Austria below the Enns). The modern designationd für the both parts of the Arch-Duchy of Austria should been arised in the beginning of the 19th century.
