Bedeutung/Ursprung der Flagge:	Meaning/Origin of the Flag:
Die Flagge von Kärnten zeigt drei Streifen in Gold, Rot und Weiß und wurde zuletzt am 18.06.1946 offiziell bestätigt. Die Farben der Flagge leiten sich aus den Farben des Wappens ab. Die Flagge selbst wurde bereits im 19. Jhd. verwendet.	The flag of Carinthia shows three stripes in gold, red and white and was officially and lastly confirmed on the 18th of June in 1946. The colours of the flag are derived from the colours of the the coat of arms. The flag itself was already in use in the 19th century.
Die Flaggen der Österreichischen Bundesländer werden mit oder ohne Wappen gezeigt. Amtlich verwendet, tragen sie immer das Wappen, jedoch darf auch die Bevölkerung Flaggen mit Wappen verwenden.	The flags of the Federal States of Austria are used with or without the coat of arms. For official use, however, they always show it. The general population is permitted to use this format as well.

Das heutige Wappen Kärntens wurde im Jahre 1930 eingeführt. Das Wappen geht teilweise bis ins 13. Jahrhundert zurück. Es zeigt einen gespaltenen Schild: im linken Feld die eigentliche Heraldik von Kärnten, drei schwarze Löwen auf Gold, im rechten Feld den österreichischen Bindenschild der Babenberger. Bis 1930 trug das Wappen eine Krone.	The today’s coat of arms of Carinthia was introduced in the year 1930. The coat of arms goes partially back to the 13th century. It shows a clefted shield: in the left field the real heraldry of Carinthia, three black lions in gold, in the right field the Austrian band-shield of the Babenberg House. Until 1930 the blazon carried a crown. `

Ursprung des Landesnamens:	Origin of the Country's Name:
Der Name "Kärnten" geht auf die Bezeichnung der Keltischen Bergbewohner, der "Karner" zurück. Dieser Name hat sich sogar auf die später eingewanderten Slawen übertragen, die sich "Karantanen" nannten. "Kärnten" ist also eine Kurzform von "Karantanien".	The name "Carinthia" (in German: "Kaernten") has its roots in the denomination of the Celtic mountain residents, the "Carners". That name was even transfered to the later immigrated Slavs which named itself "Carantanians". "Carinthia/Kaernten" is ergo a short form of "Carantania".
